Reporter: Greetings Doctor. It is a privilege for us to have this time with you to have an account of your testimony. Could you please introduce yourself, for those who don’t know you well?
Sheikh Dr. Paul Hussein: Praise the Lord. It is a pleasure to have this time too to share the good news again with you. My names are Dr. Paul HAMISI HUSSEIN MUBARAK. I was born on the 17th July 1964, in Kigoma TANZANIA.
I was born in a family of twelve children and it so happens that I am the last born in the family.
Reporter: How were you first introduced to Islam, Doctor?
Sheikh Dr. Paul Hussein: I was born in Islam. My family had been Muslim for generations and generations. So, I was born in an Islamic family. I did my kindergarten and primary education in Islam.
Reporter: Where did you study your secondary school as we as the other courses that you took?
Sheikh Dr. Paul Hussein: Islamic studies are called “MADRASA”. I did my elementary up to secondary studies in Kigoma. I did four years for the secondary school. I carried on my education in the University of
Dar-el-Salaam for four years and obtained a Diploma in Islamic Studies.
Upon completion, I went to do my first degree in Islamic studies in Tripoli, Libya for eight years. I carried on with my education in Kuwait City, Kuwait. Here, I did a Masters’ course or a second degree for six years. I did my third degree or my Doctorate in Tehran, Iran for four years.
Finally, I did an Administration and Leadership course in Saudi Arabia for two years.
The other courses that I can say that I took were after my conversion to Christianity. Once I got saved, I did a first Degree of Theology in Arusha, Tanzania. I did my second degree in Theology in Nairobi, Kenya,
Rep: WOW! You are an educated man, Doctor!
Dr. P. H: It was all by the grace of God and for the things that He was preparing me for. God had to educate me extensively.
Rep: Doctor Paul, when did you first meet Jesus?
Dr. P. H: The first time that I met Jesus was during my time in Libya while studying.
Rep: How did Jesus appear to you? Was it an apparition? A vision? How and what happened?
Dr. P. H: I met Jesus after a few researches that I did in the Koran. As I have told you, I did extensive studies in Islam. So, on one occasion at school, while reading my Koran, I fell upon the scripture in Surat or the Book of Al-IMURAN verse 45 which says, “ The angel Djibril {Gabriel} came to Miriam {Mary} and told her, the child that you will give birth to will have authority on Earth and in Heaven.
In the same Surat, Verse 49, “Jesus went to the Israelites and told them, I created you and I have the ability to heal illnesses, skin diseases, the blind and resurrect the dead.”
Upon reading these verses, I realised that there was more to the Jesus of the Christians than we were taught in Islam.
I carried on reading the same book and in on verse 55, it is written, “ the Jews went to their god and he told them I am the father of lies.”
Verse 56 goes on to say, “He who doesn’t believe the death and resurrection of Jesus is a pagan.”
Now, the origin of Islam has some ties with Jews. Furthermore, the father of lies is well known as the evil one. Satan.
If I was to explore these verses, we can see that the Koran talks about the birth of Jesus. The Koran even speaks of His authority in Heaven and Earth. Another point that comes to mind is the fact that Jesus Himself went to the Jews and told them that He alone created them.
It is a universal belief for those who believe in God that He alone made the Heavens and the Earth and that He is the one who created man.
Therefore, that scripture suggests that Jesus is God, if He could create man.
Rep: Wow, that is in the Koran?
Dr. P. H: Yes it is.
Rep: How come people don’t know such facts, especially if they are in the Koran? How come people have the Koran and they don’t know these things?
Dr. P. H: The Koran is a book that is written in Arabic. Few Muslims know Arabic and it is also in the habit that the verses in the mosque are chosen and read to the people. No one gets his or her time to read and study the Koran.
Furthermore, a huge percentage of Muslims doesn’t speak or even understand Arabic. So, there is no way people can know of this.
On the point of people having Korans and not know these things; I could ask you a similar question.
How come people have their Bibles in Kinyarwanda and they still don’t change or even get saved?
Rep: Yes. So, you found all these verses in the Koran. What did you think?
Dr. P. H: I was taken aback. These things, we had never been taught of at school. So, I became curious and in my curiosity, I studied more and more verses and books in the Koran.
Before I forget, in the scriptures that I read above, I realised that I didn’t believe in the death and resurrection of Jesus therefore I was considered a pagan. This realisation made me realise that I had to believe in Jesus.
Nevertheless, before I came to that conclusion, I kept reading and I came to interesting findings such as the authenticity of Mohammed and other aspects of Islam.
Rep: The authenticity of the prophet Mohammed is doubtable?
Dr. P. H: Yes. Allow me to read other verses in the Koran to clarify this point. Lets keep in mind that the Surats are books in English.
In the Surat Al- NISAI, verse 89 it is written, “Mohammed wasn’t sent by God but he was sent by a woman called Hadija”. In the Surat YUNUSU, verse 94, it is written that the angel Djibril went to Mohammed and told him to get saved and become a Christian.
Upon reading this, I wondered, if Mohammed the prophet himself was told to believe in Jesus, what about me his follower?
In Surat Al- AHAZAB verse 56, it is written also that the god of Islam and his angels pray for the peace of Mohammed and all Muslims are required to pray for Mohammed. This made me wonder, if God sent Mohammed, he should be the one praying for us not the other way round. Such verses kept raising questions in me that would eventually lead me to seeking Christ.
Rep: How did you start seeking Jesus?
Dr. P. H: Upon reading these verses, I was perplexed. I decided to go to my head teacher with a few questions about Islam and this Jesus that I had been reading in the Koran.
Rep: What did he tell you?
Dr. P. H: He answered me quite clearly. He agreed with the Koran that Jesus was the Son of God and He is the Sent One of God to save humanity.
Rep: He agreed with the Koran?
Dr. P. H: He did and even went as further as telling me that these are things that people in high positions in Islam know but not all Muslims know that Jesus is God.
I was very confused.
I went back to the dormitory and didn’t give up on the search. After a few days, I befell on these other verses in the Koran.
In Surat AZUKHURUF, verse 60 to verse 61, the Koran states, “ Let human beings not see Jesus as if He is not worthy but follow Him because He is the way that is straightforward. Verse 61, “ Let Satan not stop Muslims from believing in Jesus for Satan is our greatest enemy.”
Furthermore, Surat Mohammad Verse 19 says profound words in the Koran, “ Mohamad is a sinner and should ask for forgiveness for the sins of the Muslim men and women.”
After reading these words, I decided that there was no point of following Mohamed if he was guilty too and should repent.
These verses and others that I don’t have enough time and space to cite, are the reasons that I got saved. It is like God enlightened me in a way that no man would ever had.
Rep: Did you get saved right away?
Dr. P. H: No I didn’t get saved right away. I was expelled in between because of my constant questionings. When I was expelled, I went back to Burundi where my brother was a Sheikh and lived there for one year and a half. My brother eventually found me a way of going back to school.
Rep: Ok, tell me what happened when you went back to school and how it all led to the day you received Christ.
Dr. P. H: When I went back, I found that I was so far behind that I realised that I needed God. Arriving, I found that the exams prepared were going to involve the material that I didn’t know and all we had left was just one week. Whilst other students studied, I decided to sleep in. What was the point? Even if I studied much, I wouldn’t get all the material in my mind in just one week. One night, Jesus visited me. He came to me and showed me the exams that we would be doing and prepared me for the exams.
The next morning, when I went for exams, |
 |
I found that they were the exact same questions that He had showed me.
I passed those exams brilliantly. Nevertheless, my head teachers were not satisfied. They concluded that I had cheated the exams from my colleagues who were sitting next to me since one of them became the first in class and the next the third.
They decided to redo the exams just because I had passed as the sixth. This time round, they went and just got the material from the fifth year that I had never studied.
Again, Jesus showed me the exam before in my dreams at night.
This time, I passed as the first of the class in the whole year. I concluded that they wanted me to retake my exams just so that Jesus proves that He is always the number one.
After my studies, I graduated and went on for the second degree and eventually finished my studies in Saudi Arabia. Jesus kept on showing me exams until I finished.
Might I add that Osama Bin Laden was my colleague in Saudi Arabia? On one occasion, when he saw the excitement that I had after getting my exam results, he asked me why I was always excited to get my results. I told him it was Jesus. He wanted to know if I was a Christian but I refused before it went far and got me into trouble.
From my studies, I went to back to Tanzania and carried on with life as a Muslim Sheikh, one who had been given authority over six countries in the Great Regions.
Rep: Before we carry on, briefly tell me the things that you did as a Sheikh, both good and bad.
Dr. P. H: One thing that I know is that I was determined to do my job well. I fulfilled all my duties as a Muslim Sheikh. I was an overseer of Islam in those countries that I have cited.
There are many things that happen in Islam behind closed doors that few people ever get to know.
In Islam, there is an aspect of witchcraft that many people are not aware of.
Rep: Sir, did you practice witchcraft as a religious leader of your calibre?
Dr. P. H: Oh yes I did. I will cite some examples of what I did and how I discovered the power of Christians through those times.
I will never forget of one of the most humbling experiences that I had. As witches, there are times that we would transform ourselves through
Incantations. On these special occasions, we could transform ourselves into rats, cats, lizards and other small animals to be able to go into people’s houses and wreck havoc.
So, on this special night, I decided it would be fun to go to a Christian’s house and just mess their evening as well as their night. You know, as the Bible says, Satan takes pride in destroying, killing and stealing. Even so, Satan’s agents consider it fun messing people’s lives.
I went to this man’s house, and on this occasion, I had transformed myself and I was invisible. I went to this house invisibly and sat in the sitting room as the family was praying for their dinner.
They covered their food with the blood of Jesus and that meant that I couldn’t tamper with their food.
So, I resorted to sitting just there and waiting for them to finish their supper and maybe see how I could attack them in the night.
But no, the man decided to pray for his family before they went to bed. Now, this is how the prayer went, “Father in the name of Jesus, I cover this family with the blood of Jesus. I also cover this house with the blood of Jesus. Should there be any demonic presence in the house, I bind it and I command it to go away. If there are any witches present in this house, I overpower you in the Mighty name of Jesus, I command you to stay here in the house and I will see you tomorrow morning and I am the one who will give you permission to leave this house. Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you for the victory over the Cross and I thank you that me and my family will sleep well tonight.”
Now, I knew that I was in trouble. As soon as they went to sleep, I tried to see the hole by which I had pierced through and come in the house but it seemed that all the walls in the house were sealed.
As soon as I touched the walls, I would be hit as if hit by electricity and then I would fall back again on the floor. I tried this for like two hours and eventually gave up because I knew that the prayer that that man had made was able to take effect. I finally gave up and sat on the couch and waited for the morning to come.
The morning came and that man came to his sitting room. Shocked, he found me naked and sitting on one of his chairs.
He was shocked to see that his prayer was that powerful that it bound me in his house and that above all, it was the most respected Sheikh of the city in that sitting room.
He looked at me amazed and asked me what I was doing in his living room. I told him everything that had happened. He looked at me and told me that he wasn’t going to let me go. He was going to expose me to the public so that everyone knows who I really am.
He then went and got his wife and called her to come and see who was in their house. She too was shocked.
At this point, I decided that the best thing to do was to ask them to be merciful towards me and give me clothes since I had gone to the house naked.
The man eventually felt sorry for me and lent me his clothes and let me go. I’ll never forget the shame that I left that house with and the realisation that there was greater power, power greater to conquer and overcome the power that I had, despite my status.
Ever since then, I decided to leave Christians alone because all they did was humiliate me and humble me.
I got saved on the 12th of March 1993.
I heard a voice asking me, “Have you forgotten what I asked you to do for me?”
I instantly knew that it was Jesus who was speaking to me. I remembered what He had asked me, to go and tell my fellow Muslims that He alone was the saving Messiah and the only way to God.
I immediately got ready and then went to the mosque. After the prayers, I asked the people present to wait briefly after the prayers because I had an important announcement to make.
After the prayers, I told my fellow Muslims what the Lord had done for me and His saving grace towards mankind.
Unfortunately, most didn’t receive this well. I was actually hit by one of the congregants on spot. I should add that that man died one week after hitting me. I was taken to the hospital unconscious.
At the hospital, in a vision the Lord showed me that there was a man who was going to pray for me and lead me to Christ. This man was Bishop Andrew NKONE.
He came to the hospital for me, prayed for me and we went home together.
Rep: What happened after that incidence, in the Muslim community, in your family and in your life?
Dr. P. H: Oh dear God, it just became chaotic!
I became so rejected by my family. In fact, on more than occasion, my father hired people to kill me.
My own brother tried to poison me, so much happened in my family. I was separated from my wife for three months but thank God that she eventually came around and followed. Christ.
In the Muslim community, things became very bad. Muslims in my area, with my dad burnt down my house.
On this specific day, they had hoped that I stayed in the house. They came and burnt my house thinking that I was in there and that I was going to die but the Lord miraculously saved me.
At the time that they had come to burn me in the house, the Bishop had come for me earlier and asked me to be at his house. They burnt the house when I wasn’t there.
I cant go in the details of the persecutions that I went through butt I remember one important thing, God kept me and my whole family.
I am very grateful to God.
After getting saved, I immediately went to a Bible college and did and did my 1st Degree in Theology for five years in Arusha, Tanzania. After my degree, I went to Nairobi, Kenya and did my Masters in Theology for four years.
I take pride and joy in the Lord for He has graciously educated me, both in Islam matters as well as in Christianity matters.
Rep: What are you currently doing Doctor?
Dr. P. H: Am currently serving the Lord in Zion Temple Celebration Centre in Dar el Salaam.
It is a great joy to be used by God and to be travelling just for the Gospel.
I believe God has called me for the Muslim brothers, to tell them the year of the visitation of the Lord and the good things that the Lord has done for mankind, them inclusive.
Rep: Doctor, it was a great honour to spend this time with you. Thank you for your willingness to share your story.
Dr. P. H: The pleasure is mine. Let’s just win souls for the Lord in all the capacities and abilities that He has given us. That is our mandate.
Rep: Amen, be blessed.
This is the good news, that Christ came and died for us, for our sins so that we might inherit the Kingdom of Righteousness and that we might have life abundantly. The message that resonates in this testimony is the love that God has had for mankind that He has sent His Son to go and look for the lost and give them the assurance of life, seek them even in the unexpected places, as far and as deep as in the Islamic schools. As you have read, we hope that you give your life to Christ if you haven’t already done so and if you have, that you may have a burden for the Gospel and the lost nations.
God Bless. |
